Your Mission
Welcome, Playground Designers!
Your school has asked your class to become a team of designers with an important mission. The principal wants to create a new playground where every child feels safe, included, and excited to play. Your challenge is to investigate what makes a playground accessible and enjoyable for everyone before designing your own creative solution. Throughout this project, you will research, plan, design, build, and evaluate your ideas while working collaboratively to solve a real-world problem.
What Will You Learn?
By the end of this project, you will be able to:
- investigate what makes a playground safe, inclusive and accessible for all children
- apply the design process to solve a real-world problem
- generate, communicate and improve creative design ideas
- create and evaluate a playground solution that meets the needs of different users
- work collaboratively to share ideas, solve problems and make decisions
- Reflect on your learning and use feedback to improve your final design.
Your Final Product
Working in small teams, you will create and present:
- a labelled playground design plan
- a 3D model or prototype of your inclusive playground
- a short presentation explaining your design ideas and decisions
- a design justification describing how your playground allows every child to play safely, confidently, and inclusively.
Success Criteria
You will be successful when you can:
- identify the needs of different playground users
- develop creative ideas that respond to the design challenge
- apply the design process to investigate, design, create and evaluate your solution
- explain and justify your design decisions using information gathered during your investigation
- work respectfully and effectively with your team
- respond to feedback and make improvements to your design
- clearly communicate your final solution to your audience
How Will You Submit Your Work?
At the end of the project, your team will present your playground design to the class and invited guests. Your presentation should include your design plan, 3D model or prototype, and an explanation of how your design creates an inclusive playground where every child can play without limits.
